The Story Behind Click To Cure ALS
This site was built just after my Mom and I learned of her shocking fate. The diagnosis of ALS came on October 30, 2008. ALS hit her from out of the blue and rapidly dimished the physical abilities of this once vibrant, energetic, fiercely independent and wonderful person. Ultimately, ALS robbed her of her ability to do all but blink her eyes to communicate. She lost her battle with ALS on November 27, 2009.
With no known cure and no effective treatment, families & friends of PALS (People with ALS) are virtually helpless. All we have left to do is keep our loved ones' spirits up as best we can, make them comfortable and show our support in the fight to rid the world of ALS. This site is my grass-roots fundraising effort and personal mission in memory of my Mom. All proceeds collected from this site are donated to the ALSA-Greater New York Chapter - our local ALSA Chapter. About ALS
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord resulting in muscle weakness and atrophy.
Although the cause of ALS is not completely understood, the recent years have brought a wealth of new scientific understanding regarding the physiology of this disease.
While there is not a cure or treatment today that halts or reverses ALS, there is one FDA approved drug, riluzole, that modestly slows the progression of ALS as well as several other drugs in clinical trials that hold promise. Importantly, there are significant devices and therapies that can manage the symptoms of ALS that help people maintain as much independence as possible and prolong survival.
